Houston - I may have a problem

Okay, so I have my commute bike, a perfect solution to my needs: a Tricross Sport.

Only (as said elsewhere) I have a hankering after a leisure bike that I can use at weekends and leave the commute hack for what it does best.

Work is intorducing the Cycle to Work scheme later this year, so I've got a Grand to spend on a *cough* commuting bike.

Listing my requirements: road use, light trail use and shared cycle paths (which will allow me to traverse routes like the Tissington and High Peak trails)

Ah. Guess which bike is best suited to that? 8)

Tum te tum

A CX bike.

Ah.

Another Tricross Sport or do I go and stump up the extra and get a Tricross Comp? I think I may be getting obsessed.

as your commute is pretty flat is I'd go for the Tricross SS and send the rest on loads of accessories/tools/tyres etc - you can do a nice upgrade for £500!
    :wink::wink:
SC61.10a: FCN 3, with clip-on guards for winter
Uncle John: FCN ?? knobblies, or 'fat' slicks n guards

If you haven't tried these things, you should.
These things are fun, and fun is good.

sorry I'll clarify that - buy the Tricross SS for the commute.

Then, when getting your quote for it also get the quote for accessories which can include plenty of stuff to upgrade your existing Tricross plus some tools.

    that's actually a great idea.

very sensible, very logical and totally why I am ignoring it.

    Here's an idea....

Since you've got a CX bike for trail use...

Why don't you get a dedicated bike for Road use - one that's specifically designed for that purpose = A Hybrid.
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

    What would Thora Hurd do?

They do have a certain something... I have a feeling child transporting may be quite near in my future...

Kieran, why not get those nice wheels (you know the ones!) and a new drive-train set, as well as the singlecross? The more I think about it, the better the idea sounds.

Also, you can get fancier middle brake levers too you know.

I mean it! Get a seriously light cassette and maybe new basic chainrings and a proper chain...

My Shadow rear mech is so nice! as well (no sure about the weight though)...

Or could you just get a comp frame? It must be possible!

Aw congratulations Old Bean, I'm raising a glass of Whisky to you as we speak. My advice to expectant fathers? Buy a paper, and read it on a Sunday morning, whilst you still can :)

I'm deffo going to get a new bike and use it for leisure only... It's just which one. I would prefer a CX bike but the Comp may be too low with the gearing as I think it only has a 48 tooth chainwheel
