Going to Manchester for the weekend in September and planning to take the bikes to do a bit of mtbing, where should we go?

Local trail is Glentress where we have done the red and black but prefer the red as its more flowing. Was at Laggan a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the red there. Some of my friends did the black and loved it but I "chickened out" due to the lack of chicken runs :)

We also need somewhere bike friendly to stay, any suggestions? Hopefully near enough the centre of Manchester as going to a gig on the friday night.

Thanks

nearest trail centre is prob delamere forest with regular trains from manchester picadilly to delamere stations allowing bikes with no reservations.

What gig are you going to see?

btw you are soooo lucky living near glentress

If you want good riding either go west into the Peak District or better still go north to Rossendale / Calderdale.

Loads of natural riding around here and Lee Quarry which is a small trail centre but pretty technical. Also by the time you're here the new trails in Gisburn Forest should be open and I think they will be nice and flowing, looking good so far.

If you want PM me nearer the time and I'll sort a few routes out for you (and if I don't I'm sure Dave_Hill will  )
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Macclesfield Forest & Wildboarclough are good rides and only about 30min train from manchester.

    Not a problem.

Don't forget that Llandegla's probably only an hour from Manc too.

There is one place much closer to Manchester than any of these places. It is a secret place. Amazing freeride. Wallrides and big drops galore. It is not a very big trail but it is extreme. As this place is a highly kept secret i will not give too much away. I will let you find out for yourself. The one clue i will give is MARPLE. Hope it helps.
Mabie forest. Maybe one of the greatest places to ride.
