Newbie with Foot Pain :(

Hi guys,

I took up cycling about a month ago to get fit and contrary to myself have really started to enjoy it.

However, I have found that I have a niggling pain/ache on the outside of my right foot. I have done a bit of research and found this condition can be corrected by cleat wedges or wedged insoles..

Anyone else ever had this problem?

    What kind of pain?
    What shoes do you wear?

    Are they too tight?
    Is it a cleat hotspot?

    I pair of shimano MT40 s, the shoes are not too tight....the pain is an ache rather than a burning sensation that stops when i ease off, but also both my feet get numbness from time to time on an hour long ride.

    Btw....what is a cleat hotspot?

    seeing as you have just started ridng cahp and are i big lad then t could be your body getting used to it. i remember when i start riding abut 9 motnh ago i was a little under 25 stone and i ached every were. took a while for my bidy to adabt

    Then I suspect BFG is right and it's just your body adapting to new rigours :)


    A hotspot is caused by pressure from the pedal (usually cleats) on the ball of your foot. If you ride clipless pedals, it's a real possibility. however, if it's just a general ache you're having, I'm betting it's about using muscles in your feet you didn't know you had :lol:

    I know what you mean, I get it sometimes too, often when I've not been riding for a while. Seems to go once I've been for a few rides but I'm not sure what causes it.
    It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
