I'm trying to get my head around bikes after a very long time not riding.
I have a 21 speed bike. 3 sprockets on the crank and 7 on the cassette.
When I come to buying a chain I will need a 7 or higher speed chain, right?
Thank you!

shimano 7 speed chains are quite cheap too

7 or 8 speed chain (they are actually the same and work on 5 and 6 too). 9 spd wont work.

PS, get a SRAM one ;) After replacing 3 shimano 8-speed chains on my brother's courier race, I've just put on a SRAM one for the first time and even he can't destroy it with his Corrosion Touch.

Personally, I strongly recommend KMC chains, who not only make Shimano and SRAM compatible cycle chains, but have been making them for various industrial uses for donkeys years. Their series of GOLD chains are especially nice, and very durable and corrosion resistant.

    KK.
