Summer Helmet

(as inspired by the discussions about full face helmets)

My helmet is too hot in this weather.

I can't wear it when it's this warm as I have sweat pouring down my face within minutes of leaving the house / office.

Does anyone know of a helmet that allows more airflow to the top of the head? I am commuting without the helmet at the moment, and I do prefer to wear one.

    thanks for that :wink: but my thinning head of hair does not afford a great deal of protection when bouning off tarmac, something slightly more effective would be appreciated

    I find I sweat the same with or without helmet tbh. Sometimes the little sweatband inside is actually helpful to stop it running down into my eyes!

    Might be I'm just a sweaty betty, mind.

    In the spirit of actually being helpful :wink: I use a Bell Sweep R which seems to do the job. It's light and well ventilated so i don't sweat too much, or maybe I just don't have to exert myself as much as some :wink:

    I have a Bell XC sweep, which is the best vented helmet I've ever used.

    that said, I'm bald so the sweat running down my face thing is just a fact of life, even with a well vented lid. For this I got some 2 euro head things from Decathlon, they're made of bike shirt type material and are dead thin so air still circulates but the soak just enough up to stop the river on my forehead.

    Sweating like a bastud in mine last night. What's this 'don't have to exert myself' pony? Do it anyway! Threshold all the way, scalping or not.

    My Ionos is much better. Quite like my summer assos cap too :D

    I have an ancient Bell MTB helmet which is pretty well vented, the little detachable peak helps keep the sun out of my eyes too.

    But in high summer, I'm more likely to just wear a baseball cap. Cycling caps just look ghey :lol:

    Getting into the spirit of recommending what I own...

    A Met Inferno.

    Very well ventilated and I think it looks pretty good too. Pricey though.

    Also in the excellent but pricey camp is my helmet the Specialized S Works. Yes, I know it's over a ton, but it's as light as a 225g feather and cool in the summer, it's also very comfy/secure, and the full width forehead cushion stop a lot of the sweat running down mi face.

    I just wear it with a skull cap in the winter for year round comfort :D

    Ever thought of putting something like a sweatband/buff on underneath? I'm going to sweat whatever, so it's more about keeping it out of the eyes.

    The good people of the forum here recommended it to me a few weeks back, and it's been very effective so far.

    I am also bald and suffer the rivers of sweat but I don't want to add something that'll make me even warmer!

    The Met Inferno doesn't really scream "nice and cool" either.

    The Specialized Propero and the more expensive S-works seem to work a dream as they have that front vent which seems to either dry sweat or blow it away from the eyes. The helmets are well ventilated as well.

    I think for summer I'll spend a little more on a lighter version of what I have.
