do you know if a 10 speed chain will work on a 9 speed cassette

    Yes they will. But 9 on a 10 is not a good idea.

    Just to confirm it is a 10 speed chain on a 9 speed cassette not the other way around

    same applies to a 9spd chain on a 8spd cassette. Works fine.

    I bought a bike recently from ******* and the donkey who boxed it up put a 9spd rear wheel on a 8speed drivetrain. Anyway, I tried it out on the workstand just to see, and it actually shifted okay. Bit noisy but it worked. Anyway, it's all 9spd now.
