Chain Links

I have a Trek 1.2 with Sora 8 speed. I went to buy some chain links in evans and the guy sold me some 'Sram' 8 speed chain links. He assured me that they would fit the chain on my bike but I think its actually a Shimano chain. On the packaging it says 'only for use with Sram drive chain'. So the question is, will the sram chain links fit my chain or is the Evans guy wrong?

    Why did you just buy a couple of links?
