Right.
Rai Piu should have live coverage, non geo restricted of today's early stages, from anytime after 11-45am GMT.
It will be mingled with a fair bit of studio chat, but should continue until 13-30GMT.
After a 15 minute break, they come back on, until the end, but may well go geo-restricted, whereby it's Justin.tv time or whatever.

Surely that blue road on the map is going to be too tempting for some joker...

Cunego and Popo off in the break, on the first ascent.

Davide Cassani has just done his "preview ride", on tv.
"No question, the hardest stage of the Giro."

Monte Nerone looks VERY narrow, in parts.
All look to have heavy surfaces.
Second half of the Monte Catria descent is "very technical."

This stage looks fabulous. Thankfully I will be around to watch all of it. I hope Basso goes off on a long range solo break, shakes up the GC then we will see who is the reall king come Blockhaus. I wish he wouldn't wear black sidis though - revolting to look at!

Shame we wont get any live coverage of the first GPM...18%!

Don't think Menchov can rely on Rabo support today as there were none with him yesterday, although I guess he is used to that, as is Sastre, although he may have DiGi support...

    Current situation:
    Guillaume Bonnafond (AG2R La Mondiale)
    Yaroslav Popovych (Astana)
    Francesco Bellotti (Barloworld)
    Matthieu Sprick (BBox Bouygues Telecom)
Arnold Jeannesson and David Lopez Garcia (Caisse d'Epargne)
    Angel Gomez (Fuji-Servetto)
    Damiano Cunego (Lampre - N.G.C.)
    Kjell Carlström (Liquigas)
Gabriele Bosisio (LPR Brakes - Farnese Vini)
    Dario Cataldo (Quick Step)
Mauricio Ardila and Maarten Tjallingii (Rabobank)
Michele Scarponi and Francesco De Bonis (Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni)
    Pavel Brutt (Team Katusha)
    Jens Voigt (Team Saxo Bank)
    Delio Fernandez (Xacobeo-Galicia)

Tom Danielson and Bradley Wiggins (Garmin - Slipstream) at 2.00
-Wiggins was in the lead group but had a flat. Got back in but then got dropped on the first GPM.

    Peloton at 7.35

Looks like nearly every team is represented in the break. No chasing then, simply I guess trying to send riders up the road to support the GC guys towards the end.

The breakaway's advantage has almost reached 9 minutes.

Popovych is the highest placed rider on GC in the break at 9.00 down in 14th place.

Codol retired earlier in the stage.

I notice that Cervelo haven't sent a rider down the road, so perhaps the rumour of DGV support for Sastre has some truth to it. Two DGV riders are in the breakaway.

Lance has what appears to be a plastic, fruit and veg, shopping bag, tied around his neck!
You can tell because of the handles.

As with all things Lance, it's catching. LL has done the same.
Eccentric seems to be his dress code these days.
    Ice pack? :?

Levi said before the start of the stage that he's going to wait for the others to get tired and then he'll attack.

    From Velonews:
Looks like Armstrong and Leipheimer are riding with some sort of hydration packs, or perhaps it's just a bandana around their necks? I think it's an ice-pack of sorts, designed to hold ice and keep riders cool. Some riders - Garmin, for example - have used low-profile Camelbaks with ice instead of water. Garmin then went for the ice vest that Alan Lim likes to use.

There was an article in Cycle Sport recently about dehydration etc and the effect it can have is unbelievable. Yet, this sort of behaviour is not romantic or heroric!

For sure... Eddy Merckx never used an ice pack.

    Lame.

    From Velonews.
Heinrich Hausser still leads the "world rankings" released following Volta a Catalunya ... Valverde won the race and vaulted from 32nd to 3rd; Davide Rebellin is second, but he's kind of in hot water right now.

I am surprised Contador doesn't lead them actually - not sure how these are calculated but definitely not as good as CQ.

Why does Sastre always hang way back in the group...surely he cannot mark any attacks like that.

When I go to watch the battle on Ventoux I am going to bring plenty of water with me and a spray so that I can spray the riders with mist rather than pass them the whole bottle as that way it can help more guys.

What other sports get takes place in such beautiful and diverse scenery. Best sport in the world:

The descents are going to be very tricky. The organisers described one as torturous...
