Silly Commuting Sheep

No. Really. I had sheep in the way this morning! :D

Belting down the bridleway (I LOVE tailwinds!) I came across 5 lambs wandering aimlessly around. The thing is: the fields where the sheep actually ARE was about a mile back so fark knows how they managed to get so far up

I'm getting more countrified every flaming day

If only you'd had my Border Collie; Wilma:

She could have just stood in the middle of them and barked her head off - She is off the Sheep dog school in 3 months!

+1 for the collies. Had a couple of border collies. Smart enough to play Chess with.

I've never had a problem with sheep, but have had horses stick their heads through a fence as I go past. It's quite unnerving to have this huge unidentifiable thing appear in your peripheral vision in a dark country lane

On the dog front I prefer Jack Russels, mine is as mad as a box of frogs, will run forever, and is the loyalist creature I have ever come accross :lol: Plus he's as cute as they come which has it's advantages

Only issue with collies is the brain power - have to keep their minds active. Wilma knows about 25 commands now, she is a bit selective about when she will do them - probably down to a bit of boredom and just being a bit of a madam. Learns very quickly too - which makes her an ideal terrorist.

She had 3 hours of walking yesterday - takes a fair bit to knacker her.

She is only a little dog for a Collie, makes her kinda cute, she sometimes believes that she is a lapdog!

I have the same problem, my Jack is a bright as a button, but entirely selective as to how and when he'll respond at any given time.

Luckily he is small enough to be a lap dog, although it's not something I discourage. Flaking out at the end of a hard day with mans best friend curled up next to you is one of lifes great pleasure that no man should be without

Yup - you get mindless sheep that shout and swear at you when they step out in front of you. I get sheep that go BAAAA!!! Muuuuuaaaaa!!! and sh*t everywhere.

Ah. I've just clicked. There was LOADS of the smelly stuff all over the bridleway this morning, now I know where from.

  • We have a boarder Collie when I was little, just a really dim one.

Would like to have another dog, but dont have my own place and it would not be fair as I would home very little. Well that is until I get an internet connection and can work from home.

Think I will have to go for an springer. he is the ideal drinking buddy and riding companion and important document shredder
The doctor said I needed to start drinking more whiskey. Also, I’m calling myself ‘the doctor’ now

Down at my mates in S Wales the sheep own the road. I had to drive up the verge to get around one which was not moving from her warm bit of tarmac!

Another friend had working collies up in Scotland. The working dogs always stayed outside and ran the hills bringing in the sheep. The retired dog was allowed in the house but had to shut doors behind her and still occasionally helped out with the sheep. Brilliant dogs.

Collies do have an eye for cars......In fact anything that moves anywhere is immediately interesting....She took some socialising - had to walk around with her in my arms in town and around the common before she got her jabs......! Worked well though as she is quite a fun dog, just gets a bit possessive over toys (like her owner!)

My collie is insane, bless her, and she's 10. They don't get any less crazy unless they're worked!

Now that we don't have a farm any more, I probably wouldn't have another one - they need too much mental stimulation, and being 1 of 5 dogs isn't really fair for their nature.

Yes, noted on the word "crazy"!

Takes her a while to calm down.....Jumping is her latest craze, she can get to my head height!!!!

8 months of mental ball of fuzz.

May bring her to Richmond Park ride.....

Well, if we're talking collie-ish dogs, heeeeeeeeeeeeere's Mali:

    3509455729_7303984b8f.jpg

He's a rescue dog - got him at c4 months, and that makes his notional fourth birthday Tuesday next week :-) Given that he's a rescue, his lineage is not wholly confirmed, but we think he's half-springer (he has spaniel ears {and brain...}) and half border collie.

Three walks a day, and he's the reason why I do my commute twice a day - I ride home at lunchtime to check and make sure he's OK.

+1 for the springer, mine's soppy as as a very soppy thing from the soppy shop, but very good at putting up birds, (avian birds not burds you impress with SCR stories). Trouble is he was a rescue so training him not to eat what he catches has proven impossible.

He's awsome though and takes a lot of abuse from my son and nephew both 16 months old and very keen on bundling him, poor animal. As for tricks we've been asked not to go to the local dog show this year having whopped ass last year! As long as I've got a treat, he'll do almost anything.

Can't imagine life without a Springer.

What you need to copy is the URL for the image, not the page that the pic's on.

So, right click on pic, and from the shortcut menu find the appropriate option (I'm using Google Chrome, so it's 'Copy Image URL'.

    That looks like this:
    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3540/350 ... 92.jpg?v=0

You then need to remove the ?v=0 rubbish (essentially, truncate the URL after the .jpg, .png or whatever) and thus

Our dog is part collie, part greyhound (we think, she was a rescue). Feck, that dog could run - lucky we had a huge garden. We think she had some kind of sheepdog past, judging by the time we found her herding a deer into the corner of the garden.

Yep, they can run all right. When I was a kid, we had a Land Rover and used to drive along Rhossili beach from Burry Holmes with the two dogs running behind. One was a border collie, the other was a border collie crossed with, we think, a pointer.

Hmm. I saw flying rats (pigeons), a few crows and the usual deer in the Park.

If only... Might also make people think twice about cutting me up, but then the weight over the front wheel would make steering less responsive.

I think a pistol is the answer.
