crank arm length

Hi, could anybody tell me if they have ever changed cranks arm length im thinking of getting some cranks and now have the option of 175 or 180mm lenght, will there be any and i use this term loosley ... perfomance gains??? i used to ride 175mm cranks on a stumpy which was ok never gave it much thought but since im spending afew big ones on a new chainset i thought id ask im just over six foot tall and wear 34" jeans if that makes any difference to the answer?? and light that could be shed would be great many thanks

    If you've got long legs then 180mm might be the way to go, but I'm really not sure what constitutes 'long' - I'd guess you're pretty borderline.

    Worth remembering you lose 5mm of ground clearance, probably nothing but if you're already close it might be.

    I bet you couldn't tell the difference...

    well if 175mm never gave you any probs why risk it by getting longer ones?
