Still can't get my head around the search tool

I'm looking at getting some chunkier tyres for my hardtail and have no knowledge -at all- of what i'm looking at.

Are certain tread patterns/sizes etc. better than others?

I will be using them for trails.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

What size tyre are you thinking of running and have you checked the frame clearance to see if it will take a bigger tyre? What bike/tyre combination do you have now?
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
  • Got to be honest: I have no idead what i'm looking at, hence the question.

I have a standard 09 rockhopper, not sure what size the tyres are as it's at my mates house, but they are quite narrow compared to the tryes my pals have on their full-sussers. Perfect for the road and canals, but lacking grip when I go further-a-field.

Spesh site shows that your bike has a 26"x2.0" on the front and rear. Perhaps someone will post who knows the frame of a Rockhopper 09.

However it would be really helpful if you knew how much clearance around the tyres you have to give you an idea about whether or not you can go for a wide tyre.

I would not want to go for a 2.35" rear tyre on my Spesh FSRxc for example as I don't feel there is enough clearance.

  • Ok. I will have to check. Cheers! :D

I wouldn t go no bigger than a 2.3 on the rear. Have a look at this for a guide to start.

These are a good all rounder and will give you more off road grip than your current fast tracks.

I'd go for a pair of Maxxis Ignitors. The 2.1 option should leave plenty of clearance and they're an excellent all rounder.

Put these on last week, in the dry they are great, but in the wet they were all over the place...couldn’t find any grip from the front tyre...the surface was wet clay!!

will be keeping them on the HT for now, because that will become more off a road bike. when I’ll get my full susp bike in a couple of weeks....come on cycle scheme hurry up!!
