Cleaning - where to lube/grease etc

Hi
I'm brand new to MTB and have a (hopefully) simple question.....
With a new bike I'm keen to keep it clean and in working order (at least until the novelty wears off in any case..). I'm happy with the washing part of it, but what I was wondering, is where I should be applying oil/lube to afterwards.
I know you should lightly lube the chain and give it a good pedal round, but what else should I be doing? Should I lube the forks, or does this damae them in any way?
Also, is it recommended to spray WD40 anywhere to protect the bike - and again, if so, where is best to spray and where to avoid?

Lube the chain, don't try to lube the forks, er, or the brakes.
Most seem to recommend GT85 over WD40, spray it on all the other bits that move or that you don't want to rust - except the brakes.Be happy, communicate happiness.0 -
