Roadie brakes with MTB levers

Begging audience with the almighty wisdom of the commuting workshop forum.

Is there any reason why I can't use something like these

with something like these

?

I suspect the levers are designed for a different mechanical advantage at the calliper.

In which case, is there a clever way I can make the two work together?
