Training is a very personal thing, what works for some people doesn't work for others and I for one, have spent a long time reading various publications trying to work out a good training plan for myself. A good book to start with is Joe Friel's Mountain Bikers Training Bible. It is very academic and a little off putting if you're new to training and don't understand heart rate zones, VO2 Max etc but I found that I picked up some basic tips from it to start with and then as I got more familiar with it (and started training a little better) I went on to understand the more advanced topics.

There's an article in this months (April 2009) MBUK magazine (page 79) on Enduro training!

  • There is a good training plan on the Merida Marathon site, see here:

See the training planner links in the left hand menu.

  • They are both very good articles/pages.

I would recommend some flexibilty sessions. A bit of Yoga goes a long way, stretch your muscles, relax phsically and mentally. You will train harder with renewed focus.

The extra flex will also help you avoid injury.

I'm entering the 101(km) in the spring. Cant wait!!
