Rear derailleur cage

Does anyone know- is it possible to interchange the rear derailleur cage between short and medium/long (GS) on a 7800 dura ace? This would be much cheaper than buying a whole new derailleur. In other words is it just purely the length of the cage that is difference between the short and long cage models or are there differences on other parts?

thanks

No. You could swap the plate that sits closest to the spokes as that is only held in place by the bolts that go through the jockey wheels. The other plate has a hole for the tension spring to sit in and there is no easy way of getting this plate off and back on another mech.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

It can be done but requires a major rebuild of the mech. That is asuming you can get hole of the correct cage parts. They are listed but I bet they are like rocking horse manure.
