Fitting SLX rear mech + changers?

Decided to keep my Scott hardtail to use on more sedate days. Am swapping bits over to my girlfriends Scott Contessa so she can have 9 speed and hydro brakes too.
So, have gone for SLX rear mech and shifters.
Read up plenty on fitting the cable from the shifters to the mech - but quick and possible dumb question - when attaching the cable through the mech, do i leave the mech down in it's curled position on the small ring?
This is how all the guides on the internet show, but wasn't sure with the shadow slx working the other way round tension wise.

Is it a rapid rise mech then? If so it naturally springs to the large cogs at the rear. Attactch cable there.0
