sticky cranks

i've recently put my hollotech compact chainset back in, anticipating a few hilly events. its feels sticky - doesnt spin around easily. will degreasing and trying again help ? what grease should i use ?

    if you mean HT2 then

    a) they don't spin that well anyway
    b) the bearings are sealed so you can't grease them without popping the dust seals off the BB cups
    c) check the preload on the bearings - if you've overtightened the end cap then they will spin slowly.

  • Yup, agreed. If not, then use a light-ish oil on the bearings for a few miles - 100ish would be a good start, then clean and grease up. If it's brand new, should help settle the bearings.
