back after a week away (non riding) and the bike steers like a pig, very slow stiff and the front wheel will not move side to side if you lift the bike up, question service, or oil or new head set

Try loosening the stem an re-preloading the bearings, What headset? If it only happens when you're riding check tyre pressure.

Need to look at your bearings. Clean with degreaser, if stey`re still fairly shiny they should be fine. Regrease and re-preload. If bearings are piteed and dull or worse they`ll need changing.

Also check condition of headset.
