I've just found mine here:
"The muffled noise that the cycle generates on a summer evening on a country road is a perfect accompaniment to the talk of lovemaking and the sound of widespread kissing"

Now where is lost_in_thought??

Incidentally, the news section has a bit about the Tweed run and some other good stuff

I am surprised by this quote from JFK! Given his history/reputation is it not possible that the quote was sanitized from what he is more likely to have said

Could well be! Or I could be wrong and it's not JFK at all.

I've got a bike. You can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings and
Things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

Ok, more of a lyric than a quote, but I think it works

+1 for the HG Wells quote. One of my faves

    and

"If riding a proper racing XC hardtail is like touching the trail, then riding a fully rigid Singlespeed is like licking it .... or being punched by it, depending on the day"

Mine but paraphrased from Clarkson talking about some car or other (Cateram Superlight, iirc)

    less bikey (but quite beery)

    "Everything in moderation, except beer
Beer in moderation is a waste of beer"
Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day
  • Nobody ever died of tired legs - Lance Armstrong (/Ben Blyth) (I think, although despite searching I can't find any record of it. If it's never been said, it's my quote!!!)
  • "No"
Robert Millar's reply to the journalist who asked him if it wasn't difficult holding a grudge against the other riders in the 1985 Vuelta who had conspired to ensure he lost the race leadership on the final stage.
aspra nella virtu', dolce nel sacrificio
  • "O vince lui o vinco io"
Either he wins or I win.
Pantani before attacking Tonkov on the stage to Plan di Montecampione at the 1998 Giro. By taking time from Tonkov on that stage, he went on to win the Giro.

Another good Pantani quote, when asked why he went so fast up hill: "The pain lasts for a shorter time".
