My freehub has seen better days and is now slipping, are they all interchangeable i.e. any Shimano freehub will fit a shimano wheel, or are they specific for the hub.

When my freehub wore out I removed it and took it to the LBS and bought an identical one.

Freehubs are quite expensive, how much is the wheel worth ? The last freehub I bought was about twenty five pounds, a cheap set of wheels are fifty. Try stripping the axle out then remove freehub with an allen key then dribble some oil into it. Apparently they do come to bits but not sure how and they are full of ball bearings. Have fun

(obviously you don't need to 'winterize' it unless you're doing the Iditabike...)
