Share Dealing

Hey there,

I have my eye on some shares, but it's quite a big risk, so I don't really want to bet much more than £50. The charges for buying can be quite high though. Does anyone know a website with reasonable charges, say a tenner or less for a one of buy?

If it helps, I am only looking to buy one stock and hold it for a while.

Cheers
Pedro

not being funny here (i;m really not) but in my experience you are doing well to take 10-20% out of a stock - so with a tenner to trade either way - you'd have to exceed 40% gain just to make a penny - it really isn't worth it.

that said, you mention the word 'bet' so are you actually planning on buying the shares or spread-betting on them?

    Hey there,

I use the word bet in a literal sense; as that's all the stock market is.

The stock can only go up again, but as you said, dealing fees eat into the gains. Then again, if I don't buy now and the stock goes up to over a quid then I'd be kicking myself for it.

    Hmmm :?

"the stock can only go up again" -

if I had a tenner for the times I have heard this then I wouldn't need to 'gamble' on the stock exchange!

out of interest - which stock is it?

Get ready to laugh. RBS  :D

As far as share dealing accounts go, Iweb seems to be among the best (at least as far as I can see.) Deals incur a flat fee of a tenner with no admin charges.

Edit: I'm going away into the Highlands for the weekend, so I'll see what the stock is doing when the market opens on Tuesday before parting with my hard earned. I don't think it'll rebound to 4 quid before then!

You'll be lucky if it re-bounds to £4 before 2012 - presuming it doesn't end up getting nationalised in the meantime.

Try hoodless brennan, but tbh honest £50 is waste of time really. You need to commit a bit more to make it worthwhile after they take their fee.

Well, I've slept on it and have come to agree that it's not worth investing £50 when it'll cost at least £20 to buy and sell.

I'm going to get a Garmin Forerunner 50 and some new shades instead 8)

    Cheers

Much better investment than RBS shares I think you'll find.
