Am fully expecting to tune in and see some tennis / touring car / snooker etc. Anything but a cav interview knowing eurosport!

From 19:00 to 20:00 there is something on about "track cycling". I'm not sure what this is, probably something cyclocross related

It Xmas eve, it's not like there will be a glut of live sport on!

A pity as I thought it wasactually really rather very good. He came across very well IMO, spent most of the hour praising his team mates hard work.

Seemed to record fine for me using Sky+. Only watched about two minutes of it yet though.

Quite interesting, a potted biog of how he got where he is today, and an analysis by himself, of his quartet of stage wins in this years TdF.
He's not the most eloquent of speakers, but he talked through how he gets into the right place for as sprint, does praise highly his teammates' labours to get him both up to the front and get him back in position if he's cocked-up.
Also, how he's aware of what other teams are doing and is ready to capitalise on this.
The track cycling prior to it, was but a rehash of the Worlds and Team GB's 9/12 Golds.
Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.
  • Hi there.

I was very impressed the interview - Cav came across very well. This was helped by the fact that they stuck to his specialist subject - sprinting, rather than the usual banal interview questions.

The section at the end where he walked us through the helicopter shots of the manoeuvring through the peleton in the lead up to the sprints was fantastic. I've always loved this aspect of bike racing, and usually spend time going back through the finish in slow motion on tape after each sprint on tv. To have the 'fastest cyclist in the world' talk you through it was a joy to watch.

    Cheers, Andy

Just watched it now. It was good, but thought Cav's comment about the mechanic getting the sack for relaying the wrong info about a roundabout was a bit harsh :o

I agree! That section was fantastic, and its just not done enough. It gave me a buzz as a fan to be talked through the sprints, and it was funny to see the bemusement on my GF's face at my excitement.

What did come across well is Cav's sheer love of racing his bike. You could see him getting excited when he was taking us through the sprints, and he has the fullest respect for his team mates. It also gave us a chance to witness the sheer strength of guys like Hanson and Eisel. I wish there was more features on TV like this.

What struck me was how much the entire team helped him. Some of it was obvious on the live broadcasts of the stage, the Columbia train on stage 5 (I think) for example. What you don't generally see is the amount of help Cav got from Hansen, Eisel and Hincapie when he found himself out of position. The description of Hincapie puncturing, being dropped, then charging back up to the peloton, finding a way through and helping the lead out, that's the kind of thing that just isn't (can't be) shown on the live boradcasts.

    Excellent documentary.
  • My Sky+ recording did not play either, have tried to record it again next week

Agreed, really interesting film taking us beyond the usual guff from the commentators. Cav came across really well too, not at all like he's often painted by some folks in this very forum!

  • Just watched it on Eurosport. If you didnt catch it you missed the best cycling TV programme I've seen. He came over as amazingly enthusiastic for his sport and especially his team, almost childlike on occasions. I thought he was very articulate and the technical walkthoughs of his 4 Tour stage wins was a real insight, makes you realise how ineffectual the Tour commentators are. Also good to hear his views on Sastre (all good), Hincapie, Freire and Kohl (all bad! - "you can spit on that jersey") to name a few.

    Sky+ I love you!
  • what a super programme. He might ruffle some people's feathers but he is a tremendous talent, looks as though he is a great team mate and what enthusiasm !
