Hi all, i know i posted this question before but didnt do a poll on which bike i should get for 1k price range its doing my head in now. Im into freeriding and like to get into doing DH runs where ever. I do like both bikes and parts on it but will want upgrading over course next year, i just would like peoples final opinion on the two bikes. Both are the 2007 range too and with the price from £900 to £999.
Which one should i go for to get me started.

I have had full sus before a Club Roost DH8 in 2002 then sold it, and ive been off bikes for number of years due to family commintments and other things in life, so only got back into bikes in early 2007, luckly didnt lose mny skills as been in Xc scene from 95.
im riding Yeti dj hard tail which i custom built for freeriding at the mo and i have become quite good i think at riding and handeling and im am pushing harder on my bike now so i feel its time for going full sus now.

Any info be most greatly thankfull for
I don't have a bike addiction problem.....bikes seems to have a problem with me.....it just can't seem to stay on.

Have you tried the bikes in question? If so, what do you reckon? Different suss systems will behave a little differently, not to mention geometry.

Em no not tried the the bikes as no one i know has one and my lbs dont have them in how ever im off today to a shop to try the 08 Stinky out see how feels, just sitting on it though. Wish could try the Marin too. Yeah there is so many different sus system out there, i read the Marins are quite good on rear end though and easier to throw around on corners while Stinkys are bit heavier. as for geomentry i suppose depends on the fornt forks length and style of the frame and how its acctually move and responds.
Have u tried any of the bikes in question Super?

  • no problem mate. just make sure you get the right one size wise.
My bro has a medium, which at first i thought it was a bit small (i'm 6ft2) but as he is probably just under 6ft, he finds it comfortable enough to properly chuck around etc etc i think any bigger and th bike would have been too bulky.

oh and the forks are amazing.

So you ridden one then BigBenji, hows it handel then and are they as heavey as they seem as i heard they are heavy, spec wise they are nearly same 07 and 08 Konas apart from forks, will it be fine for me to start dh and bit harder freeriding then and can you get up hill with it not an issue to get up hill its the down part whats more fun :D
Well im going to have a sit on 08 model today like i say if they let me.
    Thanks again Bigbenji

  • no problem.
yea i've ridden one. they are quite heavy when it comes to climbs. when we went to glentress my bro was riding the trails on it..
i'm a bit fitter than him so ended up riding it on the uphlls and it was tough going, as long as you stay sitting down tho its not as bad as it seems, but definatly nowhere near as easy as my XC bike

on the downs its amazing tho, the brakes are superb, its easy to get air on and you can just roll over stuff. and my bro could chuck it about pretty well on the freeride park :)

i *think* the '08 model is using different/newer technologies than the '07 with regards to tubing strength etc. if it was my money i'd get the '08 over the '07 anyday just for looks!
