I've seen the following guidelines for seatclamps and was wondering id this is generally true?

28,6 mm (for seat tube from 27,0 - 28,6 mm diameter)
31,8 mm (for seat tube from 30,2 - 31,8 mm diameter)
34,9 mm (for seat tube from 33,3 - 34,9 mm diameter)

i.e. if I was looking at a Hope seatclamp to suit a 27.2mm seatube, I'd need the 28.6mm version.

Can some kind soul confirm this please?

Cheers

Steel or Ally frame? For example:

    One One 456 27.2 seatpost, 30mm clamp
One one ScandAL (26" or 29") 27.2 seatpost, 31.8 clamp.

You need to measure the frame to get the correct one.

    I have a 31.6 and need a 34mm clamp.

just measure very carefull from top tube with a clothes tape I find best and then just look at the points very carefully.

Unfortunately not. 28.6mm is for a 28.6mm tube, and so on. Don't confuse with the seat post though - the seatube is often 3-4mm wider, but again, only a rough correlation.
