I have to admit to seeing The Pet Shop Boys, live on more than one occasion.

Actually I do have a good excuse, as my other half is a huge fan.

Also, saw Depeche Mode a few years back. CLass

Bring back the 80's thats what I say, when I was young.... young....young!

Oh god, you reminded me I downloaded Bat Out of Hell to replace my old vinyl, now that is a guilty pleasure

Freebird is an absolute classic - I've got footage of them playing it live on the Old Grey Whistle Test, I just sit in awe every time.
Best band ever live is Kings of Leon, seen them twice in the last 18 months and they're awesome. Radiohead were disapointing at Victoria Park, but Seasick Steve rocks, saw him in Brighton and the sound he extracts from a series of knackered old guitars with less than six strings is nothing short of incredible :D

The resort I lived in for a while in Switzerland (Saas Fee) was where they filmed the video for that, I thnk they gave every lift station a George Michael CD, if you head there around this time of year, it's Last Christmas all the way.

    You'd love it...

Van Halen - Ain't talking 'bout love
John Farnham - Your the voice

Anything from my wife's "Power Ballads" album - they are all truly awful, but so good!

And now back to Earth with a bit of Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth followed by Kenny Rogers with "Just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in" and the Kngsmen with Louie Louie...
  • OMG - you're the voice!

    I LOVE that song.

Personally I prefer Motorheads cover of Louie Louie, there's something about Lemmy growling out those lyrics.

the combination of Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers on Islands in the Stream was a fave at Uni, I had a mate who put it on the jukebox every night as soon as he arrived in the bar, it has stuck with me ever since :?

some talent-free-zone from the X-Factor inflicting themselves on the discerning public.

I'm currently listening to the Dave Matthews Band to take the edge off my boredom.

OMG Olivia. I don't think we can be friends any more. The least talented loser out of the 50,000 who applied for the X Factor has more soul and appeal in their infected haemorrhoids than Dave Matthews, Dave Mathews Band, and every one of Dave Mathews' millions of fans worldwide will ever have 8)

Oh I'll do it myself, Jolene is a classic.

I like Dolly. Jolene is one of the default songs my brain sings to me when I'm bored.

    OMG - you're the voice!

    I LOVE that song.

Okay Livs, maybe I can forgive you the DMB horror since you like Dolly and "You're the Voice"...

I say it's OK. WMC has kids, so HSM will be way in his brain through no action of his own and he will have convinced himself he likes it.

My guilty pleasures: I like a couple of Meatloaf's better known ones I suppose, and I had a lot of C&W played at me when I were a lad so some of those have stuck too. I do know all the words to The Gambler and Coward of the County, for instance. +1 for Jolene as well, classic. On the iPod I'm currently enjoying T'Pau's Greatest Hits and I have a lot of remixed tracks taken from computer games - old, 8bit ones I'm talking about here, lots of bleeps and boops.

But don't tell anyone, OK? Circle Of Trust.
Today is a good day to ride

To be honest, these days I am old and way past being remotely fashionable so everything kind of becomes acceptable. Apart from DMB, obv. Or Stereo****ics. So the songs which might have been "guilty" pleasures in the past are just pleasures now.

Some classics I love but which might get the kids shouting abuse at me:

Whigfield - Saturday Night (soundtrack of my winter in Bologna and my short-lived Euroclub lifestyle - but it's also a cracking song, so simple, so persistent. Nice)
R Kelly - Ignition ("let me take my key and stick it in your ignition" - pure poetry)
Dolly Parton - I Will Always Love You (best song every written? Has to be the pared down, quiet version I have rather than the more bombastic version my gf has, though)
Debbie Gibson - Only in my Dreams (and you were certainly in *my* dreams, Debbie, back in 1988 or whenever)
American Yodelling 1911-1946 - one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. Not sure it's everyone's cup of tea, mind. "The Arizone Yodeler" by the DeZurik Sisters is the standout track, if anyone's interested enough to download it
Bugsy Malone - Original Soundtrack (I will be delighted to lead the line in a rousing rendition of "You Give a Little Love" at the Morpeth tonight)

"Mickey" by those cheerleader-looking lot sometime in the 80s.

"Video killed the Radio Star" - The Buggles. Just awesome.
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

wasn't Buggles something to do with those ageing rockers in Yes or something?

    Tiffany - I think we're alone now

    Ah, days long gone

Re High School Musical - I think its just relief that the Wiggles and Hi Five (?) are gone

  • In what insane world are Johnny Cash and fleetwood Mac guilty pleasures?

I don't have guilty pleasures. All the music I like is top magic and I refuse to feel guilty for any of it. There's nowt wrong with listening to 65 Days of Static one minute and Cher's Believe the next.

Anyone here play any instruments? Do you cycle with them? I saw a band playing in the street in borough market a few months ago and the drummer had a stripped down snare/hats/kick(made from a floor tom, it looked like) kit that he transported in a kiddie-trailer on the back of a bike. Rocking they were, lots of Pantera covers.

I play clarinet and saxophone... I used to carry a baritone sax around oxford in a specially adapted massive DofE style rucksack...

    Didn't get many scalps...

Respect - MrL plays sax and we have to take the baritone to car showrooms to see if it'll fit!

  • If pushed i may be known to quite like the odd Take that song but would never ever listen to Robbie Williams  [not even if he was singing in our backgarden!!]

Please can we keep the Take That admission between us it doesn't need to go any further.. Thanks for your understanding

Take That are brilliant these days - they were only really rubbish when they appeared, terrible voices and anaemic production and some bloody awful songs. But stuff like "Back for Good" and, more recently, "Shine" are fantastic choons. Great for karaoke, too.

    Hmm, SCR karaoke, y/n?
  • Toto's Africa is a karaoke powerhouse.

I find it'll fit on the front passenger seat of most cars, I only demand that the tenor fits in the boot!

Toni Basil, it was in '82. Even when I was nine I thought that she looked a bit old for that cheerleaders outfit. According to Wikipedia she was 39 at the time.

Now Debbie Gibson was another matter. Was Tiffany the one with the big nose?
