How long should I stay off the bike after injury?

The other day on my daily 20 mile commute to work I crossed a white line, my bike front wheel slipped and I came down on my right hand side. My protective glasses struck my eyebrow splitting the skin and I needed five stiches and my eye is black and blue and a little swollen. My leg aches around the knee and although I can walk ok I cannot bend easily on it or kneel, it feels inflamed although I cannot see any bruising, possibly I may have sprained my leg with the fall. How long sensibly should I refrain from cycling

Give it a couple of days then try a gentle ride up the road. If it does not feel too bad then start building again slowly. If it hurts stop and give it a bit longer. Unless you have damaged ligaments or something you will not do any harm. If it is ligament damage then it could take 2 or 3 months as they mend slowly.
