Orginising a Charity Ride

For the past 3 years I have orginised a small, week long, charity bike ride. For next year I am linking up with a small local charity and are looking at the possiblities of having a 20-30 mile fun ride. My question is, what would I need to be aware of/have in order to orginise such an event. Previously we have just set off in a group but I am thinking along the lines of Public Liability Insurace, disclaimers, permissions etc if we are going to have 50+ people involved. Or an I just get everyone to sign somthing before they go and enjoy the day?????

I've organised a ride for a charity in the past. It's worth checking what insurance the charity has, and also have a chat with your local police. We had people sign an entry form with a disclaimer of some sort. We also had a line on the entry form that said something like "we strongly recommend the use of a cycling helmet that complies to xxx" whatever the standard is, and we also asked for the age of the participant and required signature of guardian or parent to participate. (Though as it happened, we didn't get any youngsters enter).

Thanks SherryB, that helps alot. it does not sound like it will be too much of a problem. I have also sent a mail to the ctc to see what they say. I will update the forum once I have heard back.

EveryDayCycling (British Cycling's leisure rides arm) offer event insurance for charity rides, sportives, reliability rides etc. Cost is £60/100 riders.
