Cleaning grease off paintwork suggestions

What do you use to clean off that hard to remove old grease marks off your bike's paint work?

Just got hold of an old Raleigh steel framed race bike for a winter ride. Washed it well with Fenwicks and have spent most of today polishing its alloy wheels, hubs etc. To get the grease marks off the frame I ended up using the alloy cleaner (did a great job) but I don't fancy using this in the long term as it'll not do the paintwork a lot of good.

Any suggestions?

  • I've found Muc Off Dirty Work wipes to be a revealation. They seem to get pretty much anything off of anything.

    I'd go with babywipes.
  • Baby Wipes +1

Been using them for years(on the bike that is........)

What type of grease to you get on the carpet ?

Swarfega is also pretty good at getting grease off clothes (and carpets as well I suspect).
  • try fairy liquid power spray

Baby Wipes again. And they also clean your hands.

Don't use Muc Off if you care about the finish on your bike.
  • Well I may just have to give these baby wipes a try...
Q: do they leave their own oil residue? :?

Baby wipes deffo. Been using them since we had a child and never looked back ..... get the ones which are not formulated in any way ie. fragrance free, otherwise they might foam up a bit, not good.

Yes a bit. I just finish off with a soft dry cotton rag.

Well like i just said, they shouldn't do if you use the plain ones.
