Boardman Comp or Trek 1.2 ?

These bikes look like the best I can get on my budget, can anyone make any recommandations. This would be my first road bike, and I though that getting the Trek 1.2 may be a better choice beacuse the shop I would get it from will probably have better trained staff than Halfords, and would be able to put the bike together better.

    Personally I would go for the Boardman over the Trek - so many Treks out there at the moment - and I think the Boardman is the better bike.

    I'd also spend some time getting to know the basics of bike maintenance - that will pay dividends in the future.

    Defo go for the Boardman between those two.

    I had a similar choice (was between the Boardman Comp and the Trek 1.5) and decided to get the Boardman, despite the useless Halfords staff (they wanted 4 WEEKS to build the thing!!!)

    As the 08 models are coming to an end got the Boardman Comp for £50 less and built it myself and am now paying my LBS (local bike shop) £40 to check my building of the bike (was a good learning experience to do it myself) and then set the bike up as well.

    Halfords staff i dealt with were all useless, had no idea what was what and i had to really argue with them to get them to let me have it in a box. The main guy i dealt with at Halfords tried to convince me that the Boardman Comp was better than ANY Trek bike available.....especially if i take out Halfords maintenance contract you can purchase....funny that.

    But overall am really happy, really good bike for a really competitive price. The spec of the Boardman is better than the Trek 1.2 so would defo go for the Boardman.....do it.....you won't regret it.

    The Boardman does look better spec'd, but the Trek will still be a good bike. The 1.2 also takes full mudguards, should that be of interest given the time of year, and if you can find an LBS with any 2008 stock left in your size you'll get it for less than £500.

    Its my personal opinion - there are so many Treks out there. Nice enough bike - but they've just never done it for me.

    I've seen a couple of the Boardman bikes in the flesh - and they look very nice.

    Earlier this year I cycled from London to the South of France on a Trek 1.2 triple. It is a superb bike for the money & I've not had any problems with it at all. I originally bought it as a bike to leave at the station, but it's much better than that. I find Trek's fit me really well without having to make any modifications. A definate vote for Trek here.

    The extra cash could come in useful, then again, maybe not. But im also looking at the 1.2, the boardman is more my cup of tea, but sadly way out of my price range.

    had a similar choose this between trek 1.9 and boardman. i went for trek friend went for boardman and inside 4 months the boardman has been back at shop for loose spokes and noises. the trek is fantastic and im a 17 stone rider...
