Hey
I was wondering what the above is, as I am buying a seatclamp and they have this for a little extra.
I cannot have a normal headset, as mine is a zero headset or something like that.
Just wondering if its worth paying a bit extra for this head doctor.
Thanks

no.
just use a star nut.
But the hed Doc should come with a Hope headset as standard.
just use the hope top cap and bolt with the fitted starnut."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

So again me sounding dumb.
Can I just replace the top of my current headset with a normal hope cap? if I can find one,
Or would that not work?
Yes just want to pimp my bike.0 -
Or use a headloc to stop junk getting into the steerer from below.
The hed doctor is a bit of a pain.0 -
Oh so the head doctor goes underneath by the forks?
I thought it went on top.
Can you interchange caps then on the headset, as dont like the look of mine but it does the job just want to bling it up, was going to buy a chris king but found I couldnt as my headset is internal.
Thanks and I know it sounds dumb.0 -
No, the hed-doctor replaces a star nut, and still lets crap into the bottom of your steerer.
Caps are pretty universal, so long as the hole is big enough for the bolt and to fit across your steerer+spacer/stem.
I'd look at the hope or the new crank brothers internal headset, make sure you get the right type as there are about 3 different types of internal HS0 -
fitting a hed doc http://www.hopegb.com/page_mep_force_31.html
if your fork already has a star nut fitted ignore the hed doc.
you can still use the headset as it is nothing to do with the headset directly."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

hed doctor is an expensive piece of tat.0

Unless you've fitted one and never had any bother with it...0

Lol, you can get 10 SFN for the price of a hed doctor, or 5 and an installation tool! 99.9% of forks have them, and 99.9% have no problems either.0

So all I need really is just a cool looking cap, which should cost about a 5iver?0
-
Yep! Maybe a bit more for an alloy anodized one.0

The bolt is made of cheese.
Works great otherwise=========================================

the bolt is mad of Aluminum and as all it has to do is preload the bearings it is fine for the job."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Amazing, someone who agrees!
At risk of getting my head bitten off, I'll bet half the problems that we read about in the "Workshop" section are down to people not following intructions properly. Head Doctors work perfectly well if they're installed properly.
Right, I'm going to hide.... :shock:0 -
Ditto the above.
Never understood the issue with them loosening or bolt snapping.
Yes they are expensive compared to a SFN, but they work just as well but have the advantage that you get to choose a pretty coloured top-cap.Scott Scale Custom
