A few friends and I were talking about this the other week, and what with chrisnoir's other post about the mighty knida-led-zep....... thought I would ask here.

If you could revive for 1 night only, any band or musical artiste....who would you bring back.

Bands that are still touring don't count.

Getting 1 is impossible, I struggled to even get a top ten.

How about 2 each?

Hendrix.
Nirvana (A mate of mine even has a ticket for a UK tour date, but unfortunately, kurt had shot himself by then.)
Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Nirvana played the QM union at Glasgow Uni in late 1991, I do believe. Not my cup of tea though.

It would have to be Talking Heads for me.

Sounds familiar... I had one for the GMex in Manchester but never saw them due to Kurt getting busy with a shotgun. Although, having heard of couple of bootlegs of some of his last shows they really were just going through the motions by then.

    Anyway…

    1. I’d love to have seen the full Who line-up. I saw them with Entwistle in 2001ish and they were brilliant.
    2. Traffic. A very under-rated band.

Or maybe the Clash? Or Small Faces? Hmmm, even two is difficult isn’t it!?

In my yoof, I saw the Who in the original line up at Stafford County Showground. VERY loud

Also saw Thin Lizzy and Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Odeon in Birmingham. All brilliant :D

floyd - only seen Roger Waters live and the amazingly good Australian Pink Floyd. I hate tribute bands but they sound exactly the same and with the original bands sound effects, film loops and floating pigs they are the next best thing.
  • Joy Division

    The Skids

    The Clash

The Jam (not the crap later stuff? what about the crap early stuff :P Everything after All Mod Cons, especially Setting Sons, are incredible albums)

    Talking Heads

    David Bowie

    XTC

    Split Enz

    The Vapors

    Icicle Works

    Slade

The list goes on and on, forever and ever.

  • hhmm..seem to be backing up here some of the selections above!

    The Jam (at any point..)

Slade most definitely, Noddy has one of the most distinctive voices in rock

Mott the Hoople in the 70s

Saw most of the 80s British rock bands, but always wanted to see Rainbow, ideally with Graham Bonnet on vocals

Talking Heads (to my disgust my wife once met David Byrne, but her degree is in classical music so she never understood the significance of the man)

The Vapors? maybe / maybe not, only know the one obvious song (weren't they managed by Paul Weller?)

Always good to see a band live tho - some bands just cannot put it together live, others are even better in the flesh. Saw Ultravox in the 80s, flat as a pancake live, Big Country were an amazing band in concert, and if anyone gets the chance to see the Barenaked Ladies live, take it - they are superb on stage,

Velvet Underground (only ever saw the Mo Tucker remnants - tho' pretty damn fine).

And...er...that's the only "the one" - another dozen at least between which I could not choose. The Dead, Butterfly, Beefheart, amongst those NEVER seen. The Who as they were the numerous times I saw them up til about '72. Family - especially when Roger was SO bombed he simply fell off the front of the stage - same era. Cream.

Led Zep - no, not again, thanks!

    S^$* ....old or what?

    Ian Dury & The Blockheads

    The Clash

    The Jam

    The Specials

    Jeff Buckley

The Cure when they played small venues
  • The Vapors? maybe / maybe not, only know the one obvious song (weren't they managed by Paul Weller?)

I think Foxton discovered them and Wellers dad took them over. Their two albums (New Clear Days and Magnets) are both excellent. A bit like XTC in some ways, very pop-punk you'd say now I guess.

+1 for The Who - As a result of hearing them, I took up the electric guitar :D

Queen with Freddie Mercury. Huge fan of their early stuff & they played Maine Road in '86 & I thought....'oh, I'll catch them the next time they gig'................... :(

I would have liked to see the Minutemen.

Did get to see Nirvana - 1990 Carlton Studios Edinburgh - L7 supported. After the gig - 3 of my mates were lounging on our coach and some scruffy urchin climbed up the steps and walked to the back, he shook our hands and thanked us for travelling (from Sunderland) to watch his band play. That impressed me alot - treating the fans kindly.
  • The Clash, Joy Division,The Specials and....... Louis Armstrong!! pure genius.oh yeah!!
Here's a box,a musical box. Wound up and ready to play.

Managed to see Nirvana in the Kings Hall, Belfast - 1990. It was a bit like the scene out of Back to the Future, where he strummed the electric guitar and bounced off the back wall :D Talk about a wall of sound, tbh it was not a remarkable night.

Think it would have to be The Jam and Joy Division

I also saw Nirvana on the tour just before Nevermind came out (Oct '91?). I was sick as a dog so didn't enjoy it much. Saw them again at Reading festival when I was in a rather up my own arse 'Nirvana = past it' phase so didn't pay much attention to them.

I've also seen the Ramones and the VU (when they reformed and played at Glasto - surprisingly good).

Bands I'll never see but would love to.....
    The La's
    The Doors
    Johnny Cash
    Bob Marley
    Kate Bush
    13th floor Elevators
    Funkadelic
    Faust
    Led Zep (RIP)
    and
    on
    and
