Can't help sharing the fact that my 13 year old son declared it to be his main ambition for the School Holidays to go cycle camping with his dad. We went 25 miles over some hilly backroad terrain into the wind, arrived in the dark at a campsite, pitched the tent, drummed up some food, spent the night freezing to death in a tent, got up, drummed up some hot chocolate and rode home again (with the wind behind). His mother was on standby to rescue us but he was quite determined to do the whole trip and we did.

He's been sleeping ever since!!

Anyone else tour en famille?

I have cycle camped with three of my five children. It is a great way to get them started.

All five have been cycle camping, never less than two together at a time. I am sure it has developed their confidence as they have learnt to be self reliant, but with parent or sibling support to ease the learning curve.

Sometimes we start our family holiday by some of us cycle camping a couple of hundred miles to where we have rented a farmhouse for the main holiday.

    Give it a try.
