Having noticed a defect in my Scale 30 frame (2008), in particular the dropouts I am now the proud owner of a 2009 Scale 10 frame

Just got to swap all my bits over from the 30 tonight then i'll get some pics up, having recently upgraded a few worn bits to XT/XTR it feels like having a new bike again! woooo!

Love the new colour scheme of the 10, they've also dropped the criss-cross carbon weave in favour of single direction weave.

Must just say, despite my issue being very small the frame was swapped with no fuss and was at my LBS within a week of having the claim approved.

Only question is now, what is my bike? A 30, 10 or 20?

Pics tonight when I get home.

The defect was one that only an anal person like me could find, but in short the dropouts were uneven. One side was higher than the other so the rear wheel sat in the frame wrong ie like / rather than I

The total difference at the dropout was 1.1-1.3mm which meant a 3-3.5mm difference at the tyre. Not a lot - but enough to send a mild O.C.D maniac like me crazy! I only spotted it when I couldnt get my new SLR XP saddle lined up straight looking down the top tube. Whether I'm over the top anal or not Scott wouldnt have swapped it if there wasnt a valid reason - afterall, why do Park Tools make drop-out checkers if there wasn't a need for drop-outs to be spot on.

That has to be a dead set miracle....not that Scott replaced your frame but that it only took a week.

Generally Scott customer service is horrific.I know from experience, my Ransom was out for effectively 3 months, the time it took for themto service my shock.

I love that frame. I have just sent my '06 Scale 30 fame off. Hopefully i'll get a '09 Scale 10 frame as i am not keen on the colour of the Scale 30 or 20.

I basically upgraded mine to a Scale 10 spec.. the only thing left is/was the frame, oh and seat clamp.

Yeah, I wasn't too keen on the 30 or 20 either.

I've got a bit more way to go yet before mines a genuine 10

I'd say that the dropout misalignment you quoted is a major defect so the replacement was definitely warranted.

Similar things happened in the shop - An 06 Scale 30 frame had a stuck seatpost, mechanic called Scott and followed their advice, top of seat tube snapped off. Scott sent an 07 Scale LTD frame without even wanting pics.
06 or 07 Scale 50 frame had hairline crack in head tube (quite possibly from a crash). Scott sent an 08 Scale 40 frame straight away without wanting to see anything.

Built it up saturday and added some sports shield (much better than that 3m stuff off ebay) to the cable rub zones, part of top tube, down tube and on chainstays to prevent mud and stuff scratching the paint near the tire tread edge :oops:

The ride feels the same as the 08 bike, but the balance is better now that the wheel sits straight. So much easier to ride no hands and easier to pop a wheely (on a scale, shock horror

)

Hoping that they send me that frame. I've cleaned all the componants they are ready to go.

Got it from my LBS - sherwood pines cycles, wiggle do similar stuff as do one or two other places online. It's so easy to use as compared to the 3m stuff you find on ebay. I think CJW used the same stuff on his scale.

I'd say you'll get a 10, seems like standard practice.

Hi you might want to watch the chain stays. My chain stay protector did a good job of protecting the top but the bottem of the chain stay protector had worn completly through. Luckly it has only scuffed the carbon and the damage only looks cosmetic. As a temporary [although probably wont get round to changing it] solution I have wrapped and taped some inner tube round it and then put the chain stay guard on over that. If you have some of your magic tape left you might want to put it on that area aswell.

I'm gonna cut up some old tyres and use them if there is enough clearance. That should be a good enough defence, and they'll last a lot longer than the Scott Protector.

Yeah, i've covered the stay in tape too as I had a little chink from the chain on my previous frame that defeated the scott protector.

I actually crashed the thing last night and wrote off my rear wheel, the frame is totally un-marked - not even a hairline scratch!
