Anthem

Thinking of buying a 2nd hand anthem frame (not the new 4" travel version) and building it up using the components from my hardtail but got a couple of questions:

I'm 6'2 and I'm guessing a 20" frame would do the job, would I be right?

Whats the tyre clearance like - currently running 2.2 Conti Mountain Kings, they be OK?

Whats the bike like to run through the winter (pretty muddy around here) as I'm wondering whether I'd always have ongoing repairs with the bearings etc - hardtails are bad enough :?:

Any help/experienes appreciated.

Cheers

Had mine a year and a half and it's never needed any repairs, but I do have two other bikes that I rotate it with.

I've only gone up to 2.1 tyres, no clearance issues looming though.

Wonderful bike btw, amazingly fast and well-balanced.

  • 20" sounds like it should be OK, but you won't really know til you try one.

Are there any shops that stock older models near you?

I'm 5ft 9in and went for the medium.

Reviews suggest the bikes come up on the large side, so a large might be spot-on for you.

I did have to fit a shorter stem to get my position right - but the bike's never felt too big for me.

    Dunno if that will help?

LBS only had an 18" which I sat on. It was too small!

I'm 6' and ride a an 18" Anthem, fits me fine. Had mine since July 07 and not replaced the pivot bushes etc. yet but planning to after this winter is over, they still feel/sound fine though.

Tyre clearance is pretty good, a 2.2" conti should be no problem
