Noticed a few pairs of these recently. The first time I thought it was a ladybird on the back of the shorts.

What make are the shorts?

Sounds like they could be Castelli, try here:

  • Maybe, hard to tell. Not that I check out other cyclists behinds but it is in the centre of the back of the shorts

  • Assos? Like the Swiss and Brazilian riders were wearing in the Worlds?
They've got a little square tag in the middle.

Sounds like Assos. the new shorts have a blue tag. The older ones (pre 2008) have an orange tag.

The red tag is to indicate Cytech, a company which specialised in inserts - they make them for Assos, DeMarchi and various other companies - the tag has a little 'V' logo on it. http://www.chamoises.com/
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Cheers, Assos it was. Probably cannot afford a pair but they did look good quality

just mentioning CyTech chamois, i hav a pair of gore proteam 3 bib tights and the chamois in them is useless tho this was after getting a pair of assos f1 uno bib shorts, so no contest in chamois comfort level. what waist shorts would you recommend with a chamois that works like assos without spending £76

after a bit of searching im considering the
    Gore Bikewear Contest Shorts.

Last weeks cycling weekly had a review of shorts in. It may still be in the shops.

thanks, yes good thing i had that issue. well cw gave the SPECIALIZED COMP SHORTS WORDMARK 08 a mark of 9 and nothing else got 9, maybe because they didnt put demarchi, assos & gore in the test? well i orderd the specialized shorts so i hope the "impact 8" chamois is as shock absorbing as they say it is.

would it be possible to get a chamois replaced or changed?

^ I'd be interested in that too.

I have some Nike shorts that are supremely comfortable fit and fabric wise but the pad isn't that great - my Assos pad is much better but the shorts themselves aren't as comfortable.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Assos do a pad replacement service, but doubt they'll touch anything else. Might be worth contacting the Cytec folks.

Yeah, Assos repaired mine once when the stitching started coming undone.

Ideally I suppose you could buy the pads direct from Cytec and then have a decent local place stitch them in.

Just have to make sure you get the padded bits in the right place.

this lady is a keen cyclist and is well known in the Time Trialling fraternity for her repairs and adaptations of cycling clothing. She can also replace chamois i believe.

    try contacting her :D

Cut the chamois out and use them over your shorts?

I've done it a few times with different brands - some patience and a stitch unpicker and it's not hard - after you've washed them you wouldn't know there was a pad there.

I find unpadded longs a lot more useful too as you don't have to wash them after every ride - I rotate 4 pairs of shorts and 2 pairs of longs so can just do a 'lycra load' each week.
