Bit of a awkward subject this but we're all adults here aren't we!

I'm not sure but it seems like since I've started cycling things aren't quite as "big" and "impressive" as they were before! Kind of like it's all not quite as "strong" or "vigorous" as it was. I'm thinking is due to the cycling and having half my bodyweight resting on my bits for 5 hours at a time!

I'm currently using a Selle Italia T1 SLR because I really like the forward position it gives but I suspect that if this *is* brought on by cycling then sitting on the nose could be exacerbating the issue. There are seats with those gaps in the middle, would I be right in saying these solve the problem? IF so can anyone recommend one with a good forward seating position?

Also just in general really does anyone have any tips, pointers ways to solve this and so on, I'm sure other folks here have seen this and found solutions. The good functioning of my parts is important to me at the moment but so is the cycling, I wouldn't like it to get to a state where I'm having to choose one or the other! Plus it's not something I can go into my LBS and talk about really!

I would go one step further and say that the good functioning of my parts is always important, and so is cycling!

Talk to your doctor if you are concerned (and it sounds like you are). There can be lots of reasons for ErDys. Remember, doctors hear and see much worse than this every other day, so you can feel assured that they will take it seriously.

Depending on how much you ride, how hard, how long, and how much you can recover from, I would also look into fatigue as a reason or partial reason for a drop off in "performance". There is only so much hammering on a bike that you can do and still
be able to do "other" things. Old age can also be a factor and I know what I'm talking about there. There are also different "camps" that either believe or don't believe that the
constant pressure on your "parts" can actually shut down blood flow in one of the three or all of the three blood vessels going into "big Jim" and cause erectile problems, although this is in extreme cases as I have been told by my doctor. This is the reason that cuttout
saddles are popular. Who wants to take a chance? I have had one of the blood vessels
shut down in my.... Erections are not quite the same as "before"(I won't go into how).
Anyway the doctors said it was "Peyronie's" disease(not sure about the spelling) and
may or may not be a result of bike riding. So now I use a sit bone and / or cutout saddle
and I don't get numb "down there" like I used to years ago. I still have this problem(15
some years now - no cure). That's my story.

In seriousness go and see your GP. Maybe invest in some better shorts and saddle. Check things like your seat position and post height, as that can worsen things.
Don't keep yourself in one position all day and stand up in your saddle every 20mins or so and just let the blood move around a bit.

The reality is there could be lots of reasons.

Personally speaking I used to do Yoga which had quite positive effects in that area, I stopped that a few months back and started seriously with the cycling, since then things have started to go the other way! The problems I'm having aren't huge at all it's just somewhat noticeable that things are not quite as good there as they were a while back, and since meeting a pretty special lass recently I'm finding myself wanting to um, "impress", which in turn probably isn't helping things!

Yeah anyway I don't think it's an issue for the doctor or anything, just looking to see really if cycling does have these effects and thought I'd ask some people who might have been there rather than my 20 something doctor who only ever seems to look things up on his computer! Specifically I believe it's caused by the bodyweight resting on the perineum resulting in that area becoming squished and so becoming a bit disfunctional.

Probably going to buy myself a different saddle, one of those twin nose ones. I'll try that and start with the yoga again I think.

Do they regard a certain pill because i've been getting them as well, maybe some-one on this web-site is passing around e-mail addresses, any-one else getting these?

  • could be diet, because of the amount of cycling you're doing your protien/iron needs will go up, if your diet isnt keeping up with these, maybe its causing a bit of 'softness'

    Well it's certainly not me.

That's gotta be pretty embarrassing, especially if you've been riding at the back!
