Right quick one for you....

I'm picking up the Bianchi 1885 with Veloce in Celeste in the next couple of days and have ordered a set of Look Keo Sprint pedals.

Next is the shoes, now i'm not sure what the etiquette is with colours and brands etc but i don't want to look like an idiot when I eventually turn up at a club.

Obviously i've gone campag therefore are shimano shoes a big no no?, as a novice even i think that that would look a little naff.

I've also gone very odd wide shape feet ( normally measure 8 length ways but about a 10 width ways, meaning i normally wear size nines unless there not too slim ) any suggestions for wide brands?

And lastly, and this is very vain..... having looked at this pic any perfect matches for the bike? Would you agree with white to match the seat and bar tape? or black to match the wheels, or silver to match the crank??

Please all chip in i'm open to all suggestions - which could be cool if it starts off a huge debate!!!

Hmmm, I've never known anyone worry so much about having the right shoes  I see all sorts out on the club run.

Specialized are generally quite wide fitting.

  • Pants!!! I wasn't meant to come across that bad, okay forget the other bits, lets just stick to wide fitting decent shoes and leave the colour coding to those that are as vain as I am

Is a white a defo no no, I was quite taken by the looks of some of the adidas ones :(

If you think you will be riding on wet roads white can be a nightmare to keep looking nice, but its personal choice realy.I also ride a bianchi with campag and i have shimano shoes,be carefull with the size i am a size 8-9 with wide feet but found shimano sise up small so had to buy 10 for a perfect fit.Try before you buy. :D

Many sidi shoes come in two width fittings. Sidi shoes are very good, and if you are worried about style, they are Italian and so should compliment your Bianchi nicely!

Never buy shoes mailorder, you need to try them on.
  • Adidas shoes are good, I have some but I wouldn't say they are very wide fitting.

Specialized and Northwave are wider i think.
  • What about SIDI Genius 5 in white for £105 from http://www.brixtoncycles.co.uk/stuff_shoes.html#sidi

and then a set of black SIDI overshoes for when its wet?

No one looks at your shoes, they're more likely to look at your bike and say "nice bike" but it's highly unlikely anyone would look at your shoes.

I have size 8/9 wide feet and the Specialised are plenty wide enough.
If you are not a badge snob  pop in to Aldi - they have cycle shoes for £19.99 - may be worth a try
  • Why do you want to spend such a lot of money on a pair of shoes? It seems a lot for a new rider. Why does it matter? Good riders and good clubs won't care what you wear, or look like, just that you want to ride.

Just about the Ultimate Road Shoe. These are expensive, but you could find these cheaper, I'm sure. I've just got a pair in white. They are SO stiff, suddenly the hills are mere speed bumps.
If you are going to go for the best, then the Sidi's are the boys. Italian, sexy, carbon soled, what more needs to be said?

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.

Just make sure you TRY THEM ON FIRST, and either white or black will go with most club kits

As a side note has anyone else compared Sidis to Specialized, I ordered a pair of Sidi's in a 42 and they were so tight over the toes I thought they were marked wrong and so loose in the heel just walking around the house caused them to flop up and down, sold them on ebay and picked up a pair of spec. comp carbons for a perfect fit.
