My brakes...

So, I've been advised by Litts to get some Aztec replacement brakes, but there are many options... so which ones??

Aztec Control Block Pair Of Cantilever Brake Blocks

OR

Aztec Control Block Pair Of Nutted Brake Blocks

OR

Aztec V-Type Cartridge System Pair Of Brake Blocks (probably not these)

OR

Aztec Limited Edition Road System Pair Of Brake Blocks

OR

Aztec Magura Hydro Pair Of Brake Blocks

    My rule is to always go for the ones with the most amusing name. So, Aztec Control Block Pair Of Nutted Brake Blocks it is.

    Surely this depends on the type of brake system you have? :lol: I hear the aztec dual compound are very good for the more rainy weather, though are about 12 quid.

    These are prob what you need. Counter intuitively, WD40 and a pair of sharp nosed pliers (I believe that they come in different colours, if that's a concern) are a good way to get the pads out. They might just push out if you are lucky. Beware frame damage from slipping tools during pad removal efforts (particularly with your strength).

    You need to use wd40? Mine just slip out, mind you they are V brake cartridges :)

    With the cartridge pads I've fitted/replaced in the past, some have slid out quite easily after I've removed the pin and turned the wheel with the brakes on, others haven't been so easy to remove.
    I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    I'd suggest getting the one's that let you use cartridge blocks in the future personally.
    I was using some Koolstop Salmon's until the LBS took it upon themselves to replace my brake blocks during the service!
    Not all bad as I'm now using Shimano Dura-Ace pads but I did like the self cleaning system on the Koolstops that ploughed the cr4p off the rims when wet!
    They also worked great when wet!

    Not always, but on a cruddy winter bike it can be necessary.

    Brilliant, thanks guys! Have goe for the ones where you can change the pads on Chain Reaction, as I already purchased a pair of kool stop pads without realising they were wrong... doh!

    I look forward to improved stoppiness!! :D

    IMO DON'T buy inserts as they are more of a pain than they are worth to save the couple of quid, but if you;'ve already got them then good luck :)

    ps watch out when you first fit them as they are much stoppier than the factory ones

    I have already ordered them from Chain Reaction... but teh chain reaction ones look about the same with the removable doobrees... not to worry, I'll survive! I have already cut my nails off and begun meditating hourly and removing sharp objects from my bike area in preparation...

    And maybe I'll buy a helmet and gumshield in preparation for the inevitable journey over the handlebars... :lol:

    I have an angle grinder you can borrow if required....Used it last time I had to remove a siezed bottom bracket. Cut the frame up and re-welded another bb shell in place...bit excessive you might think, but the violence involved was pure ecstacy.
