Having popped in and out of the " Embarrassing Bike Questions" topic a bit it seems, to me that a new section might be of help here.

Do you want a separate tech area? If yes what should it be called?

If you are happy with things as they are no probs.

I kind of like that my embarrassingly dumb questions are only visible to a few. Also, I know the guys on Commuting are lovely and very helpful and that they read most of the threads on there so I do get an answer.
  • Call it "embarrasing bike questions". Seems to work okay at the moment!

If you mean a tech sub-section to sit within the Commuting forum like 'Commuting General' then yes please.

As for names, I'm thinking I'm thinking gimme a minute.

    What about

101 Tech Questions You Never Wanted to Ask

    or

    Online LBS

    or

Tech Support (for a more sensible approach)

    or

    The Fettle Stop

    Seconded. :)

And, as Litts says, within "Commuting General".

yes like at the moment you have commuting general as the only sub fora of commuting, what i am suggesting is a new sub fora for the tech bit in commuting along the lines of the embarrassing bike questions topic.

With the idea of keeping it simple and basic mainly as a place for you lot to discus the tech issues you have.
If you want serious pop into the road or the MTB sections.

Oh I will need fora heading and subscript

so you can go for both serious and ......

No no non CJCP within Commuting the same as Commuting General is...tsk check your thread man for goodness sake

Nicklouse, unless we get any better suggestions then I favour "Online LBS - daft questions asked and helpful answers given"

How about helpful questions asked and daft answers given?

That would make me feel I contribute to the Forum.

    The On-line LBS.

Ask the daft questions here first.

    Yep. What you said. :)

Re the bold bit, "LBS" would hold us out as having some sort of expertise. Expertise is the last thing I have. "Possibly inaccurate answers" I am full of.

I think "online" is one word these days - "on-line" looks a bit like "good-day" or "e-mail"!

And "ask the daft questions here first" is a bit scoldy! I like Litt's "Online LBS - daft questions asked and helpful answers given" and don't really think it needs to be changed.

I'd say no to Online Bikeshop or the section will be inundated with people asking which bike they should buy.

Why not 'Technical stuff: daft questions ..."?
  • 'Online LBS/Maintenance' Page

Definately a top idea, it would definately mean less money spent in the son of satan they call evans!

This has made these forums even more disjointed I'm afraid Nick.

I'm all in favour of a specific workshop / technical section to take the technical topics from road gear and know how, which is too clogged full of "what shiny factory wheelset should I buy?" type threads that it's difficult to find the useful technical stuff, hence the same questions get asked over and over again.

Yes, we need a workshop topic, but if the road section, and the road gear and knowhow section needs to chenged simply to road gear.
