hey,
i'm upgrading my TV in the next few weeks. Currently got a 19" HD Ready LCD, which is goin to my gf for computer/tv purposes.

i want something around the 32" mark and would prefer a sony as i have a sony 5.1 surround with bravia link (for sound).

I've been looking at this SONY - KDL32V4000 but i'm confused as to wether this tv ouputs 1080p or just accepts the 1080p signal but converts it to 720p/1080i? I know this may seem a bit trivial as on the website it has 1080p all over it, but on the UK sony website Here there is no mention of 1080p support.

yet again, on the australian sony site Here it says it supports in and out 1080p :(

I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo confused

Cheers for any help guys cus this is doing my nut in :(

It is a tad odd - some sites review this as full 1080p and some not. Sony's UK site states 720p though so that's what you have to use as other countries may have different spec and software variations.

Generally speaking on a 32" you don't need 1080p as the human eye can't really detect that level of detail and most will take in 1080p (Blu-Ray/PS3 etc) and scale it to 720 so you don't need to worry about it not displaying anything.

Liam posted the 1080p version of the Sony's range although it depends on your budget. If your looking to spend -£800 i'd easilly go for the Philips 32PFL9603 - http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/revie ... -LCD-TV/p1

If your Sound System is HDMI 1.3 you shouldn't have any issues with auto syncs, which is basically what the Bravia Link is.

yea i figured that there would be little/no difference in picture on a smaller tv...tbh i dont think sony do a full HD tv smaller than 37" anyways.

The sound system i have is a 5.1 sony hdmi pass thru system rated at a total 1000w... i just figured that a sony bravia sync tv (as the sound system also has bravia sync) would give me better sound....

i have around £500 to spend, but i dont reaaaaally want anything too big....32" would be fine, 36" the max i think :)

You should still be able to get a decent TV at £500, keep in mind most of those will be the brands entry level range though so expect blur and judder although as with the resolution, it's not as important at 32".

Not sure if I confused the HDMI, but HDMI isn't a sound system setup itself. HDMI version 1.3 is the latest of the firmware support, offering much more data through the connection giving greater colour depth and audio auto sync. 5.1 on a sound system refers to 5 speakers (5) and a base unit (.1) which will sound no different through any TV brand. Anything external (Sky/DVD etc) should go direct to your sound system bypassing your TV.

    Hope that helped.

aye cheers mate, cleared my head a bit :) so in all fairness, the bravia link is just a gimmik by sony, that'd make no difference what tv you were using?

i know this isn't an av forum but you seem to know your stuff, so what should i bee looking out for in a tv? i know the highe the brightness/contrast ratio, the quality should be higher....but how high is high etc?!

I had a very quick look on the AV Forums myself - I look there from time to time but it's so conflicted between it's viewers it can be tough going, but you do get some honest untainted feedback from none-brand loyalists. For a 32" around £500 price mark there isn't a massive choice. TV's are like computers being that you pay for what you get and if you want a high performing one you need to fork out more. On that note I probably suggest your original choice at the site JACKTHEOC reccomended: http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct ... DL32V4000U or at John Lewis.
For the price it's a good spec, good range of connectivity with side connections of ease of use and your menu systems will be similar to what your used to already.

Just imo - someone might know of a better deal.

    Goodluck
