right I need to replace my training and club ride bike. I'm thinking around £1k
please discount the 'amazing' online offers as i'll only buy from a bike shop. Mainly due to experience and service.

I'm happy to drop carbon for alu so I have excellent components

I would disagree, drop the components in favour of a good quality frame(whatever material) and upgrade later. A poor frame with good components is like a Chaved up Saxo.
  • Have a look at the Viner Gladius. £1k gets you a full monocoque carbon frame and Veloce 09 componentry.

They've pitched this model with the help of Halfords at the Bike to Work 1k cut off. So you get a lot of bike for your money.

  • Don't wory, I won't buy a bad frame just drop the wonderful carbon to replace the Aluminium one. I have my Carbon bike for racing this is for training etc
I've had enough of my tiny compact frame with a tripple

  • The Viner is worth a look as suggested by Barry but I would look at the Ribble Nero Corsa with Ultegra also at a grand and available on the halfords scheme
  • I will quickly mention the Dura Ace Planet-X offer for £1000 that started last Thursday for 100 bikes, allegedly, just in case you are swayed by a tempting online offer ;)

Another option that springs to mind is the Dolan carbon framed bike at Dave Harding Cycles in Woolston (Southampton). The bike is above your budget, but having read you have a racing bike, you might be tempted by those nice DALKIIA 'sixzerox22' 60mm deep section carbon wheels to transfer to your nice bike...

Cannondale CAAD9 - loads of option under the grand.

CAAD9 better than most carbon frames at this price range. It's the height of Aluminium frames. I wish I could just find a frameset.......
