Astana had a nightmare. They were down to five riders after about 2km.

    Very technical course though.

    Huh?
They lost 5 secs to Valverde, 3 secs to Sastre, hardly a nightmare. Had they crashed, then I'd agree with you......

They didn't look very smooth during the last part of the TTT, but saying it was a nightmare is ridiculous. But definetly not their best TTT, that's for sure.

Euscadi second in a TTT??? Never saw that coming...
  • I see someones' already forgotten the other 19 teams.

However, on this occasion, I find myself in agreement with Astana's number one fan.

I wouldn't read too much into the first 7 kms of a 3500km race. If you want a pointer to CSC's challenge, maybe yesterday's Tour of Germany result, might be the place to start.
Top rider finished 52nd and defending champ, Jens Voight was over 8 minutes down.

Brajckovic went well, on yesterday's big German climb, having been dropped early.

A number of potential contenders will have left their best form, far behind, on those Tour climbs.

IMO, this will be an Astana cake walk, come the mountains.

Sorry, you're right. I ought to state for the record - yes, there are teams other than Euskaltel taking part.

    Who?
Touche, as they say. Hope nobody mis-reads this as touchy.

Supposed to be a tough circuit finish today. Possibly a bit too much for Boonan and Bennati.
One for the classics/WC hopefuls, such as the Cricket, Piti, or maybe even the gold jersey......

    According to http://cyclingfansanonymous.blogspot.com

"The weird results of the TTT in the first Vuelta stage seem to be due to numerous teams purposefully taking it slow in order to avoid a crash on the perilous course, which caused a number of unfortunate riders to visit the pavement."

Or the French teams might be afraid of winning, being tested, and being found to have bugger all in their systems - surely a big no-no in the Wild West of doping?
