polishing alloy rims to a shiny shine....can it be done

hi all
..don't know much about metal and what you can do with it so thought i'd ask.
Could you polish these somehow

(struggling to find an old pair of 650B's)

    i think that they are anodised - which is in't impossible to remove, but setyourself up for some damned hard work and using some pretty harsh chemicals.

    I have to say though - why??

    Even if you did get them polished shiny they wouldn't last five minutes and you'd be polishing after every ride!

    why...i'm trying to restore an old bike that originally had steel rigida 650b rims, which are now perished. just trying to think of a solution that would at least look a bit similar to the original rims. can't find any old steel 650b's...

    Be glad, braking performance on steel rims is atrocious. Better off with Alloy rims, if you are going to actually ride the bike.

    It can certainly be done. Though I'd recommend taking the rims to a metal finisher and get them to do the hard work for you.

    Someone makes old type steel wheels, they make them for Pashley but also for old style parts retailers. Someone else may know more.
