Hi all.

Don't fancy paying my local bike store to fit my new derailleur (at a cost of £15) so I think I'm gona buy a sram chain.

I know NOTHING about bikes basically, but I know that I don't have a sram link, so I can't undo my chain, and thus fitting my derailleur is a nightmare.

Can someone recommend me what I need please? I'm riding a Trek 4300 disk 2007, and just bought a deore XT761. It's a 24 speed if that helps.

Cheers!

Just buy an 8 speed powerlink (silver one) and fit it to your existing 8 speed chain (you will need to remove an outer link from your chain, the powerlink replaces the outer link) cost ~£2 if you have a chain tool (or £2+ cost of chain tool)

Would it be worth me buying the chain tool taking into account that I wouldn't use it much? How much are they? It sounds a decent idea as my chain is pretty new!

    Cheers for the advice

If you plan on cycling in the long term you will get use from a chain tool.

Get a multi tool such as the Topeak Alien II, it has a superb chain tool, you will need a multi tool to carry on your rides incase the unexpected happens.

£30 for the tool & £2 for the power link. Money well spent.
