Best way to raise bars, stem or riser bars ?

I'd like to raise my bars slightly, or at least have the option. I have riser bars fitted with 40mm / 1.5inch rise. I've seen bars with 2 inch rise which might be enough, but would this effect the handling ? Stem has 6 degree rise, 10cm length

Mainly ride trail centres etc, nothing too wild, XC stuf

Thanks

Yes, the handling will change as your weight distribution will be different.

Do you have any stem spacers to adjust first?

Also consider stem length for handling changes.

No spacers above the stem so thats not an option unfortunately. I actually like the handling now but the bars are about 2 inches below the saddle so gets a bit tiring after a couple of hours.

See if any friends have a spare handle bar you could try. Also, ask at your LBS, a they very often have a spare bar laying around. Worth asking. Try getting several different bars, as height and width make a difference.
I like my bars about the same height as my saddle because a. it improves comfort and b. provides better control for the front wheel.

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.
