Halfords Carrera Titan Carbon - will the frame stand up?

In between monitoring the Tour de France and, occasionally, doing some work this week, I have come across this bike on my surfs.
It is £900 for a carbon frame with half decent kit (though probably a few cheaper hidden bits). I have asked Halfords twice who makes the frame and have got one answer which was spectacularly unhelpful:
"The frame for the Carrera Titan is specified to specifc standards by the Halfords team as the Carrera brand is exclusivly sold and developed by Halfords".
Anyway, any views on this as a frame? I have got a bike2work voucher, so am limited to £1,000 for my new bike and will be going hardtail.

As in: http://www2.merida-bikes.com/en_GB/Technology.Carbon?
That fills me with a bit more confidence if so. Problem of not being able to test ride unless in stick at Halfords but might just dive in.
Rockhopper pro disc was the other contender but has gone up to £999 for 09.0 -
its gone up, but is the spec the same? Specialized often keep a name, but respec it.0
