For example there should be no penalty for a roadie shaved (like a laydee) or hairy (like a man) wearing lycra. That is what roadies do.
Similarly, panniers on a tourer are standard kit.

It's possible that shaved(like a laydee) roadies should be allowed poseur kit as well (wraparounds wannabe jerseys )
    thoughts?

if someone's willing to shave their legs they will damn sure be wearing the kit to go with it.

That being said it's all about getting out there and gunning it nonchalantly of course. it's raining a bit so maybe you should keep your speed down for safetys sake

We're gonna need to start a Wiki on this soon.........I do agree certain categorie do automatically come with some modifiers, I mean if your gonna go to the effort of being a shaved roadie I'm pretty certain your gonna be wearing lycra - otherwise you'd just look like a freak........at the opposite end of the scale would a person on a folder get more points for wearing lycra then a hyrbid rider, after all they might not be riding as far, but if you've taken to wearing lycra your obviously moving towards becoming a "proper" cyclist!

    no idea about wraparounds tbh

    +1 for baggies sure

    I can live with that.

So I'd be back to my baseline score (5), which just means there's more out there to hunt...

    I need arbitration, referee!

Welcome VL I look forward to defeating you and telling everyone about it!

My take on Roadie FCNs is this, I must say I'm with Snooks on the Kit adjusters

    Hairy Roadies base kit

    Lycra
    Lid
    Clippless

After that the adjusters kick in

    Positive adjusters

    Normal clothing +2
    Baggy attire +1
    Clips +1
    Beard +1

    No impact
    Sunglasses

    Positive adjusters

    Little bike cap -1
    Tour de france jersey -2
    Team kit -1
    Power meter -1
    Aero bars -1
    Rucksack-less -1

A hairy roadie with cap, TDF jersey, power meter and Aero bars is on par with a scooter....... without a rucksack he's ultra cold 0 and big time scalp!

Of course after this very fast bit of maths under time/speed pressure there are the subtle adjusters that you and your conscience have to agree on....

Are they a whippet? Is that proper obscure bike kit, is that the remains of a race number on the frame?

A secret deal is made with yourself and you either front up or back off like a bad dog when Daddy gets home.........

    Surely rain brings on a whole new set of scores;

Rain cape (the kind that covers rider + bike) + 5
    Cycling with a brolly +2

  • Hello

This is my first post and I see this as the best place to start and introduce myself.

Im an Edinburgh commuter, with a criminally short run to work and back. I occasinally take in a longer route round Arthur Seat (the big exstinct 400ft volcano in the middle of town, you cant miss it). But on reading about 'The Game' this will now stop. It is full of hairless (like a lady) roadies in team gear, with that power stuff, computers etc etc and they pass me with ease and I dont have a hope in hell of catching and taking them. I will now be sticking to the fast flat sprint that is Seafield Road.

I think I am right and saying Im a...

    MTB with slicks 8
    With rucksack +1
In baggies +1 (well, tracksuit bottoms with one leg rolled up to aviod any chain catching related accidents - quite a ghetto look)

So that makes me a 10.

Is body size taken into account? Im very slim and am looking to be positivley rewarded to taking someone whos thigh measurements are the same as my waist. As I say I have a short fast sprint home and am looking for points form people who are 20 miles in as Im just starting.

Also, with regards to effort. Is standing up and pushing hard acceptable to catch someone up (as long as they dont see you) then at the last moment being seated to nonchalantly pass them even possibly giving them a cheery 'morning' as you pass?

Looking forward to reading a clear guide that will answer some of my questions and concerns.

Would you also get positive modifiers for going out dressed for sunny weather in the rain? I'm not a huge fan of rain clothing, and won't put my gill jacket on unless it's either a torrential downpour or very windy!

    Welcome UPL!

I have to take exception with your refusal to mix it with Shaved (like a lady) roadies. It doesn't matter at all if they drop you but if you pull off the big one and put some clear water between you and their silky thighs the Kudos is yours.

You have to play to win.....

Rucksacks are 0 in my book - the absence of carrying anything a negative adjuster -1.

Adjusters for baggy clothing need to be agreed amongst you MTBers I know nothing of this and refuse to be drawn into "urban" conversations between guiys who watch Point Break twice a night.

It never occured to me that a player of the Game would RLJ....

Of course RLJers are a rich vein of scalps as the whip by the static gamer and present easy meat 150M down the road - this is however not an endorsement.

In addition there is the Glow of Justice for having done them

In fact - and I'm going out on a limb here - we should have a seperate side show - how many RLJers did you do and of them how many times did you manage to do the same one.

    Great effort......

    I'd make one suggestion

    "No passing at Lights/Junction/Crossings "

Be amended to "Scalping when decelerating into Lights and Junctions doesn't count"

    and add

"If you scalp someone you have to maintain or extend your lead for so long a time as to have the dude you just passed admit to himself "I was done". Nipping by then running into a side road / hiding in traffic won't wash....."

You're missing the point. It doesn't matter if they pass you. But if you pass one of them, you've got points coming out of your ears. And cunning counts for almost as much as sprinting ability in this game remember.

does a cycle computer get counted under power meter

    I'm torn on this..

Power meters are defo a big adjuster and count heavy in the subtle indicators of "big scalpness" a dude with a power meter is serious about his output......

Whilst a bike 'puter is an additional bit of kit you can get them for 15 quid........

I'd not count a hairy roadie (my class) with a 'puter to be sufficiently diferent from me to give me kudos chips - so I'll get off the fence and say puters = 0....

someone with a cycle computer obviously cares about how fast they are going and is probably setting targets so it should be a -1

perhaps a full blown power meter being a whole level above should be a -2

Should be good tomorrow for some points:

    MTB with nobblys: 9
    Baggies +1
    =10

Speedo possible -1 depending on the agreement

Only other thing is does a camelback count as a backpack being specific cycling kit? (didnt think of this in my earlier post). Also what about a water bottle?

First of all, this thread is sheer class. Good work.

I've just been looking at my FCN and I'm thinking Q-bike...

I do a bike train bike commute.

Bike 1 - crosser with full guards (I'm claiming 6), rack and pannier (+1), hub dyno and lights (come on worth a point surely), baggies (+1 over lycra - HA!), and spds (dammit, -1)

looks like 8 or 7 if you're rejecting my dyno hub. As I passed a full shaved like a lady roadie on his Tarmac in team colours a couple of week ago, I'm still feeling chipper.

Bike 2 - and this is where it gets devious
    slicked MTB 8
single speed (clearly doesn't count on an MTB, right?)
    pannier +1
baggies (over lycra HA, again, +1)
SPDs but the cunning ones diguised as flats!!! If I wear lace-up touring shoes surely I get +1 for them
    I'm claiming 11.

Now clearly if someone is REALLY fast and rides a butcher's bike nude then they are
going to trump anyone but back in the real world I think I'm golden. Who's going to get points off me?

    MWAHAHAHAH!!!
