this is probably the most common, easiest to fix problem. after putting a new stem on my bike the top tube sticks out the top, which is fine, but when i put my front brake on my steerer(?) tube off my fork rattles about on the inside of the frame steerer tube. i`m sorry if i have got the names of parts wrong but please....HELP!

The stem needs to be 3-5mm higher than the fork steerer tube. You can get spacers to do this. Then you need to adjust the headset bearings.0

have a read of park tools. there are pictures showing how it should be.
add spacers above or below the stem to make up for the lower stack height on the new stem."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
