SRAM grip shift cable installation

I am trying to fit new cables to some SRAM grip shifters. This involves feeding the cable through a small hole on the grip and hoping it finds its way through the mechanism to come out of the barrel adjuster. Unfortunately there is a 90deg bend inside the shifter that the cable has to find its way around and I can tell you it ain't going!!!

Anyone have any tips for forcing it through???

It's an 'MRX Comp'; apparently the same as 3.0 Comp. Here's a link to SRAM's service sheet that gives no clues to overcoming this problem!
