What is the legal situation in France if a cyclist is hit by a car?
i've heard that the motorist in effect automatically loses their licence but is this really the case - I ask because a Swedish cycling colleague is curious and I said I'd headd the rumour & would check it out!
Thanks for any sensible input

I read somewhere that, regarding liability, it's the car driver's fault, unless they can prove otherwise. Don't know about the penalty if it is their fault, though. Not much compensation if you're lying on the ground, but it sounded like it has made drivers more alert and defensive. But then French drivers have always been better behaved than British ones anyway.

Thanks George - that was sort of my impression too, but where can I find out for sure what the situation is?
